G - 33 Militia Belt Plate & G - 34 Militia Cross Belt Plate
Circa 1851 - 1865
I dug many of these from early 1862 battle and campsites. Early in the war both North and South used these belt plates. After the Seven Days Battle, 1862 the Union changed their uniform to the blue and did away with the state militia uniforms. Many of the northern uniforms were grey and fighting the Seven Days Battle before Richmond, Va. it was hard to know north or south when confederates made that charge. The confederate soldier used this plate 1861-1865. My two original master patterns are marked J. S. Smith & Sons, New York.
