TG - General Robert E. Lee Two Piece Belt Plate

This Lee buckle was not cast from the original one of a kind in The Museum of the Confederacy, Richmond, Va. It was put together using several different buckle parts to represent Robert E. Lee's belt plate by G. W. in 1970 and very close. You can purchase a reproduction of the original R. E. Lee Two Piece from "The Museum of the Confederacy." Information about the Robert E. Lee two piece and how you can buy one is on the Hanover Brass index page.

Take a close look at the James Smith Virginia two piece (T-114 & TG-114) and you will see a difference in the wreath pattern.  Lee's original belt plate pictured below was not cast by Smith. This belt plate has all the same casting features as all the other Richmond belt plates. This is the same type wreath used for the officers CS two piece that was cast in a Richmond foundry.  The detail on Lee's two piece has been reworked by a skilled engraver and very different from the James Smith belt plate design.

Mac Mason's original Virginia two piece belt plate. This is the belt plate that made my reproduction business grow into what it is today. T-114 Virginia two piece is the pattern taken from this original in 1968. I give Mac credit. He was the first to let me copy his buckle collection. He had many belt plates that were the first reproductions to be sold. Photo of Mac making music with the handsaw. Mac Mason was a collector, relic hunter and author.
